Networking

We have Dinners and the City … we have Offsite Learning Experiences ... we have all there is to do and to see in Family Central (Westside Ballroom South, 5th Floor). These, however, are the multitude of other opportunities—networking and otherwise—to connect with your peers at the 2011 Family Philanthropy Conference:

Welcome Reception

Sunday, January 23, 3–4:30 p.m., Broadway Ballroom Foyer

The reception features New York-style food carts that will capture the smell and taste of the big city—minus the dirty-water dogs. New York is, of course, known for its mouth-watering, multicultural cuisine. The Family Philanthropy Conference is known for its mind-expanding, multigenerational networking opportunities. Get the best of both worlds at the opening reception, which will feature the tastes of Little Italy, Chinatown, Spanish Harlem, and Little India—and it will be your first opportunity to mingle with the other attendees after the preconference concludes.

Jazz at Lincoln Center

Sunday, January 23, 6:30–8 p.m., Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts

Join us in this wonderful venue for a networking event that runs through both The Allen Room and the Atrium. Based on the design of a Greek amphitheater, The Allen Room offers luxuriant splendor and possesses one of New York City’s greatest backdrops—Central park and the Manhattan skyline. Notable for its welcoming ambiance and magnificent views, the Atrium also offers magnificent views of the city’s skyline. Amazing hors d’ouvres and drinks will be served in both locations. And to put the icing on the cake, Juilliard Jazz students Lucas Pino (tenor saxophone), John Chin (piano), and Clovis Nicolas (bass) will perform throughout the evening. UBS representative, Steve Schroko and Nuveen representative, Carl Katerndahl will give brief remarks. Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Executive Director Adrian Ellis will deliver welcoming remarks.

Family Central Cocktail Reception

Monday, January 24, 5–6:30 p.m., in Family Central—Westside Ballroom South, 5th Floor

Join Council on Foundations staff, exhibitors, speakers, family, and friends as we raise a toast and celebrate. We will feature local artist Elizabeth Jordan and hear about her art and inspiration. We will offer cocktails and hors d’oeuvres.

Breaks in Family Central

Throughout the Family Philanthropy Conference, Family Central—Westside Ballroom South, 5th Floor

This is the break schedule, by day, for the conference:
  • Monday, January 24: 9:30–10 a.m.; 11–11:30 a.m.; 2:30–3 p.m. (refreshments served during all breaks)
  • Tuesday, January 25: 9–9:30 a.m.; 11–11:30 a.m.

Come Spend Time at the Next Gen Lounge

Hosted by 21/64 and The Andrea and Charles Bronfman Philanthropies in Family Central—Westside Ballroom South, 5th Floor

Come talk with and meet next-generation funders and learn about resources on next generation and multigenerational philanthropy to take home and use with your families, foundations, donor advised funds, and other family enterprises. The lounge is also an informal area for conference attendees of all ages to meet and engage in conversations and interactive exercises.

It’s a Family Affair—Social Networking at the Family Conference

Throughout the Family Philanthropy Conference, Family Central—Westside Ballroom South, 5th Floor

The conference provides a chance to tap into the Council’s social networking resources—our blog, RE: Philanthropy, Facebook, and Twitter—to engage new partners and expand the conversation. With such a robust agenda, there will be plenty to talk about! We’ve recruited a "Bridges" social networking team and developed a schedule for attendees, presenters, and keynote speakers to contribute momentum-building posts before the conference as well as on-site and post-conference perspectives. If you are interested in being a member of the team or have an idea about how we can enhance our social networking efforts, please contact Sean Walsh at sean.walsh@cof.org or 703-879-0678.
