Safety Net Services Making a Difference: The Bay View Hunters Point Community of San Francisco

Tuesday, September 20 - 1:30-5 p.m.

The recession has left many of the Bay Area’s most vulnerable families unable to meet their basic survival needs. More than one-fifth of residents live below the poverty line, unemployment rates exceed 19 percent, and it has the highest infant mortality rate in the city and county of San Francisco. Yet in the face of the recession—and state and federal cutbacks—nonprofit organizations are making a difference by providing critical services to community residents. On this site visit, we’ll focus on health care as a safety net service for individuals and families.
