It's been seven years since Hurricane Katrina, but the New Orleans philanthropic community continues to play a major role in rebuilding and revitalization projects all over the city. You can experience some of these uplifting efforts firsthand.

City Reinvention

Monday, September 10, 1:30-6 p.m.

Discover how a community foundation partnered with national and local funders to create a community revitalization initiative in the wake of a natural disaster. Key stakeholders will share how residents from Broadmoor and Faubourg Lafitte reimagined their neighborhoods and the landscape of the city, as well as the opportunities that emerged, the pitfalls that were overcome, and the lessons everyone learned during this five-year effort.

Grow Dat and ReThink This: Youth-Led Food and Health Initiatives, New Orleans Style

Tuesday, September 11, 9:30 a.m.-12 p.m.

Come hear about two local food and health initiatives with a New Orleans twist: Grow Dat! Youth Farm, a program that nurtures a diverse group of young leaders through the meaningful work of growing food, and Kids ReThink New Orleans Schools, a student-led change initiative focusing on school reform issues, healthy lunches, and restorative justice. You'll see and learn from the students about their leadership in food system reform, how their efforts are growing a healthier community, and the holistic approach each organization and the work takes. Light clothes and sunscreen are recommended. Water will be provided.

Mobile Education Workshop

Tuesday, September 11, 1-5:30 p.m.

Almost seven years after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, there is still an enormous literacy crisis for New Orleans's poorest children. Visit Columbia Parc to learn about some of the comprehensive strategies being tested to solve this problem, including partnerships with community foundations.

The Brainstorming Bus Tour ' Communicating Impact

Tuesday, September 11, 2:30-5 p.m.

Climb aboard as the Greater New Orleans Foundation leads a bus tour through the heart of the city to visit three nonprofit organizations: Market Umbrella, devoted to cultivating the field of public markets for public good; Idea Village, a leader of local entrepreneurship; and The Lens, an award-winning, Web-based news site. Learn more about these organizations and share best practices in communications with your peers.
