Distinguished Grantmaker Award

Presentation of Award - Monday Breakfast Plenary, Monday, April 11 - 7:30 a.m.

The Council's premier award shines a spotlight on an individual who has made significant contributions to the field of philanthropy. First presented in 1984, this award celebrates those who exemplify the values and practices that are promoted and encouraged by the Council.

Kathryn E. Merchant - Distinguished Grantmaker Award

 

Kathryn E. Merchant
President and CEO, The Greater Cincinnati Foundation

Merchant joined the Foundation in 1997. Before that, she was the director of The Pew Charitable Trusts’ Neighborhood Preservation Initiative and a partner in the New Haven, Conn.-based consulting firm Holt, Wexler & Merchant. Among other leadership positions, Merchant spent six years on the board of the Council on Foundations and served as chair of its 2009 Annual Conference. She has received several awards, including the Ohio Philanthropy Award from the Ohio Grantmakers Forum, and was one of the “Top 50 Power and Influence” leaders selected in 2008 by The NonProfit Times.




The Henry Hampton Award for Excellence in Film & Digital Media

Presentation of Award to Budrus - Saturday Night at the Movies, Saturday, April 9 - 8:30 p.m.

Presentation of Award to Crime After Crime - Sunday Night at the Movies, Sunday, April 10 - 8:30 p.m.

The Henry Hampton Award, named in honor of a man who broke traditional molds of documentary filmmaking and put excellence and innovation at the forefront of his work, honors the very best in foundation-funded media. This year's winners are Budrus and Crime After Crime.



The Newman's Own Award

Meet and Greet Reception with Johann Koss, Sunday April 10, 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

The Newman's Own Award was established in 2010 to recognize individuals, other than philanthropic professionals, who have used their professional achievement for significant philanthropic service and/or leadership. The award ceremony will take place during the Opening Plenary Session from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Then please join us and Mr. Koss for a Conversation on Global Philanthropy and the Right To Play from 2 to 3:30 p.m., followed by a Meet and Greet Reception from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.; both will take place in rooms 407- 409.

Koss, a four-time Olympic Gold Medalist, and pioneer in the Sports for Development movement, founded Right To Play in 2000. Using sport and play as tools to effect behavior and social change, Right To Play trains local coaches and community leaders to implement programs designed to develop basic life skills, prevent diseases, teach conflict resolution, and instill hope in children affected by war, poverty and disease. The company has programs in 20 countries in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and South Africa.
